I did use a Digital phone line with dialup
access (the digital phone service which has free long distance to
Canada from the USA but not across the sea). It use to work fine but
they changed something to the service and now you cant stay connected
at all (maybe 30 seconds from the time you connected), I used it with
my Dreamcast and Beige G3 AIO all the time at a friends house that
had digital phone line service.
Real land lines (not a digital phone line) cost out the butt for long
distance calls unlike with a digital phone. I do remember the phone
bills after using BBS because of the long distance calls.
With all of that i have since used a Broadband connection to my PC
with the dreamcast using its dialup modem hooked up to the PC's
dialup modem, i used what they call a dreamcast dialup server

I do not know if the same could be done with a Apple IIc or if anyone
would want to go through all of that just to get it to work. Probably
best and easiest to use the same ole methods to transmit data to the
IIc.
