CPU sounds from Phasor?

If I listen closely to the speakers that are connected to my Phasor
sound card (which is in my unenhanced revision B //e), I hear
different quiet sounds, depending on what the computer is doing.  Such
as: a rhythmic sound during long accesses to the disk drive; pulsing
tones in time with something flashing on my screen (this is flashing
that the computer has to actually THINK about, not the kind of
flashing attained from BASIC's FLASH command--A whole screen flashing
because of the FLASH command gives off no noises); and a quick tone
whenever I push Return at the BASIC prompt.  BASIC's flashing
checkerboard cursor seems to make no noise, however.  My Phasor has
always done this.  Does anyone know why this happens?
