MIDI question-let's see if anybody here knows..

I am trying to establish a MIDI interface connection between my PC and my 
IIgs.  It has been suggested by an outside user (who, to my misfortune, 
only knows about Macs) that I could just use a null modem cable between 
the PC serial port and the IIgs modem port.  So I did, but it still won't 
work.  I wonder if anyone can tell me:  Will this work as a MIDI 
interface?  (Or is it hog-wash?)  Has anyone ever tried it?

I have installed a PC driver that uses the serial port for MIDI, and I 
have also installed and set up the Apple MIDI drivers on my IIgs.  Do the 
serial port settings (baud, handshake, etc.) matter (on either machine)? 


PLEASE E-MAIL me, in addition to posting on the news.  My news server is 
SCREWY and doesn't receive all of its messages.  I've been haggling with 
the sysadmins about it.  :)
