APPLE LASERWITER PLUS: pAPER fEED qUESTIONS

i JUST GOT A USED APPLE LASERWRITER PLUS, made in 1988, with 33,600
copies made on it so far. The picture quality looks EXCELLENT.

But it has a problem of paper feeding and jamming. The self-test page
comes out normally, then a blank sheet feeds halfway. When the second
sheet is pulled, there is a jamup on the feeder. I have trays for 11"
and 14" paper. I am sure that the stack of paper was installed
correctly, with the corners tucked under the corner-holders.

What is the problem with blank paper feed? The innards look good --- no
sign of any tickering. I _speculate_ that maybe the printer thinks it
is getting 14" paper and it continues to feed, expecting the longer size.

So far, I have not yet gotten beyond the self-test first sheet.
I connected a IIC to the serial port (25-pin) but nothing came out.
Today, I note that the serial port on the IIC was set at 1200 baud, while
the switch on the Laser Writer Plus was set at 9600 baud. I will repeat
the attempt to print from the IIC later...

Also, what word processors work best with this printer? I am happy with
my NEC spinwriter and my Commodore daisy wheel, and Bank Street Writer
Plus and Appleworks, but if I connect the laser successfully, maybe I
better start doing more fonts and graphics...
