Re: Do schools still use Apple // computers?
I teach at a small private Elementary school in S. CA. We have 4 GS and 10
IIe in the lab. 2 GS, 5 IIe, 1 Tandy, and 3 Power Macs in classrooms. The
public schools locally use both Apple II and Power Macs in the classrooms.
Usually the class has both. All of the Elementary, Intermediate, Jr and Sr
Highs have Macs in their labs. The Private Rich-Kid High School has IBMs.
We recently surveyed our student families to see what they have at home in
the way of technology and asked for donations at the same time. We have
aquired 3 IIe and one color and two mono monitors so far. We have had
offers of lots of 286s but we don't know what to do with them as we would
have to invest in software for them.
We use the Apple II for word processing, banners for classrooms and for
local businesses who love to have banners made by the kids to decorate
with, especially at the holidays or to thank the business for a tour or
for info. We teach keyboarding on the Apple II and, yes, we use it for
Drill and Kill too.
We also use the Apples for our afterschool Program. The kids drill or work
on homework.
We use the Macs to cruise the Internet.
Hope this helps. Regards-Ley
