AOL could have sent the Apple II Forum archives to Tom on diskette.
It would have been an extra-nice gesture, but, also, a fair bit of work
for someone on the company payroll.
As it is, AOL is willing to let Tom handle moving their nice
collection of Apple II goodies plus descriptions to another site. That's
something not every on-line service would permit. Evidently, AOL figures
that, if II users want the stuff, we should put out some effort to get it.
So far, I've munched about 20% of the Games folder. It's not a whole
lot of work. Mainly, you need to save each file description-- you can
click Save As in the File menu and enter a name while viewing a
description-- and, then, click on Download Later for the actual file.
After selecting files to download, you click on Download Manager in the
File menu and select all of the files in the list and start the download.
Since most AOL users are, now, on unlimited time, the main cost is
having your net-access computer tied up doing downloads for a while. On
the plus side, helping Tom with the project is a good excuse for upgrading
to a faster modem!
AOL subscribers who want to help should contact Tom to find out which
pieces of the Apple II archives still need to be downloaded.
