There is a 1K file named PRODOS.SYSTEM in the root directory of a
GS/OS boot volume. This is just a dummy file and not the same as
PRODOS under ProDOS 8, but it is used to redirect the general
ProDOS boot sequence (compatible to the IIe, so it looks for the
PRODOS.SYSTEM) to launch the START file in the SYSTEM directory.
I think you must have copied PRODOS.SYSTEM from some IIe floppy and
overwritten the dummy PRODOS.SYSTEM on the HD. The IIe ProDOS would
look for a .SYSTEM file to boot (later versions are smarter and go
into a program selector if it can't find such a file).
Do this: reinstall System 6.0.1 from floppy. The next time you
install your IIe software, do it in subdirectories (folders)
instead of the root directory. If you do install in the root
directory, make sure to not overwrite the 1K PRODOS.SYSTEM dummy
file.
