    Yes, your correct, however what if that computer does _not_ have 
TCP/IP software available for it? I can ring up the ISP with my modem,
but not much is going to happen with just a "dumb" VT-100 connection.

    My point is there is currently _no_ TCP/IP (base required to use 
a SLIP or PPP connection) available for the Apple II. You can only use 
a serial link and connect to a host as a dumb-terminal, relying on the
host system to run the software (eg, Lynx, rn, mail, telnet, ftp, irc).
In otherwords, your system just acts as a window to another computer
that is doing all the work. "GS/TCP" is presently being worked on for
the Apple IIgs, but until it is available, your above suggestion is 
simply not an option.
