I don't really feel it's my place to endorse any one of a similar

Nope. There is 1 slot dedicated to memory expansion on the GS. AE
had a card that could apparently connect multiple RAM cards, but that
apparently didn't support DMA. Thus, you'd get the slight bit of extra
ram, but pay a speed penalty in disk access, etc. Not worth it for
most people; 4.25MB ram is plenty fine for 95% of all users.
