Ok, it looks like you did it all wrong.  If you want to join
#appleiigs, join and listen for a while, and see what the convo is
about.  Try to join in and just act natural.  Sure, it might take more
time than just jumping in and asking an Apple II question, but
remember there are real people on the other end - ya can't just barge
into a real conversation and start asking questions.  Listen for a
while.  If someone makes fun of your nick (which is lame unless your
nick is like |-|ak3r or something really lame) just roll with the
punches and relax.  Just keep coming back day after day, and don't be
a dork (ie. don't get upset because no one is talking or no one is
talking about what you'd like to talk about; be patient!!), and before
you know it, you're addicted to irc and start calling people by their
real names :)

If you've concluded that we're a bunch of morons in under an hour,
you're either very perceptive, or you acted like a dork which makes us
act like dorks too.

So, to recap, don't be rude or get upset.  irc is just fun!  Too many
people get all excited that they are "surfing the information
superhighway" and act like dorks by repeatedly asking questions or
yelling at us for not answering 'em.  Just remember to act like it was
a real conversation.
