Why bother calling it a _graphical_ web browser then? :-) But I agree, it

I don't understand why you don't want to display the full text in a
scrolling window in the first place. Because the icons for the graphics
wouldn't fit in?
If I understand you right it would be an almost text-only solution but
with added comfort like colored links, character entities (i.e. foreign
characters) displayed correctly, mouse support etc. This would already be
a lot better than LYNX in respect to ease of use.

Wouldn't the GS serial port be fast enough? It is also capable of doing
200kbps AppleTalk on an unaccelerated machine.

I like this idea very much. sorta NC on a card... Hmm, sounds good. Any
takers, any makers? :-)
