Ok, I'm stuck with this Shiva FastPath that I can't get rid of, so
I guess I'll be putting my GS on the net after all. =) I don't care
about the fact that TCP/IP for the GS doesn't exist yet. If it ever
comes out, I guess I'll be ready.
What I do want to get going though is AppleTalk file sharing between
my GS and a Mac. If I can get that to work via LocalTalk, then I'll try
it with ethernet through the router (which needs a Mac for configuration).
Then if I'm lucky with that, I'll see if I can get one of the free
AppleTalk implementations for UNIX to talk to the GS. Got a few questions
though...
1) I'm gonna need a Mac. =) I see Macs are pretty cheap on the forsale
groups, but which model do I buy? I know I need to run an old version
of AppleShare on it, and that version won't run on newer Macs. Can
someone give me some specifics here?
2) I've got a RamFAST. I believe it's the last version of the card they
made before they went to using a smaller form factor. I think it's
in slot seven, so could this interfere with my plans?
3) Are there any other issues I should think about? I'd like to hear
from anyone who has set their GS up with a network connection.
Anyone want to save me from this and just buy my FastPath 5R for $200?
=)
