It will be GNO-only, at least at first.  That will save me the trouble of
writing a modem routine (something I've never attempted before) since I can
just use GNO's UNIX-style I/O routines.  Also, I can use GNO's IPC
(inter-process communication) facilities instead of having to design
something similar from scratch.  I'd like to graduate to something more
Mac-like eventually, but that's even farther down the road than the GNO
stuff is.

Also, all of my existing code is in C, since I wasn't comfortable enough
with assembly at the time to use it.  I'm definitely going to have to
reimplement as much code as possible in assembly.
