There is also slot 4.  The slot for the mouse is only needed for older
programs that communicated with card-mice for the IIe.  GS apps find the
mouse on the ADB anyway.

But then there would be three options on slots 1 and 2 (you can use the
modem port for AppleTalk) and only one option on slot 7: Your Card.  Much
easier to set things up for two options for every slot.

Also, it is possible to boot over AppleTalk, but to do that you need an old
discontinued version of AppleShare for the Mac.

You can set it up to boot off of slot 1 directly.

Eventually you'll find you can live without a 5.25" drive and use slot 6.

Also, some cards can coexist in slot 3 with the built-in 80 col firmware,
such as cards that only use the slot to draw power and connect elsewhere.
