For the record David 'Captain Harlock' Scott, get a CLUE and get the
facts correct PLEASE - Noise Tracker v1.0 was done by the FTA and it was
also declared by none other than Joe Kohn to have been a program placed
into public domain from the FTA, v1.1 was from Ian Schmidt (Ian obtained
the src. codes - indirectly via me - BTW), v1.3 thru v2.0 were from
1WSW, they were legal updates, also sanctioned by, with the knowledge,
help and the blessings of the original author - Olivier Goguel and were
not rip offs or sector edits in any respect what-so-ever. They were
compiled by our 1WSW programmer Dave Swanson, with my instructions and
suggestions for all enhancements and updates.
The President of the FTA - Olivier Goguel, cofounded 1WSW with me, in
1993 for the express purpose of my coordinating the program updates with
the FTA releases - Olivier furnished me with the Noise Tracker v1.0 src.
codes first. I furnished the v1.0 src. codes to others second. These are
facts that nobody can deny or prove otherwise. I have ample letters and
documentations from the author of Noise Tracker (Olivier Goguel), to
prove all of this. This is common knowledge that many others are also
aware of.
If in fact the program was public domain, then nobody ripped off anybody
with any updates, if not then the same applies - as Olivier Goguel gave
me the program and the src. codes first - with all rights to it to do
with it as I desired - with rewrites or enhancements to Noise Tracker -
always as freewares. All 1WSW updates, enhancements and rewrites of
Noise Tracker always had Olivier Goguels name as the original program
author with credits for all others that helps with any such updates,
enhancements and/or rewrites.
Additionally, anything of yours that is located inside of the Ground
Apple2 ftp site and 1WSW folder should certainly be downloaded and
closely review by you. If it was uploaded to Ground by me, I can assure
you - anything I ever uploaded into the 1WSW folder was obtained from
other places (such as the binaries posts of apple2 usenet and was not
modified by me in any manner - other than making it into an archive from
such binary segments it was derived from on the downloads from the
newsgroup comp.binaries.apple2.
There are lots of archives in the 1WSW folder that I did not upload are
request that they be placed inside of it. If you or anybody else finds
anything of yours inside of the 1WSW folder that you don't want to see
there then I'd advise you to contact the administrators of Ground and
ask that it be removed promptly!
I've discussed these items in the 1WSW folder that I did not upload or
request that they be placed inside of it with Steve Nelson and told him
I didn't request them to be placed in the 1WSW folder. Steve and I came
to the decision to leave them there until somebody complained about
there being in the folder, then removing them, if the complaint was
justified. To make it very clear to everybody - just because something
resides inside of the Ground apple 2 ftp sites 1WSW folder doesn't imply
that it's from 1WSW or that I uploaded or requested that it be placed
inside of the 1WSW folder.
Ground is down at this time (at least it was the last time I checked it
out). The 1WSW folder inside of the upload folder can have anything
placed in it by anybody, without my control, assistance request or
knowledge, by anybody that wants to upload an archive there.
I just went through this very issue with Richard Bennett concerning his
freeware release of OZ DOS, which I obtained, uploaded it exactly as I
found it, without any alterations to it, even adding a readme file for
it, because none was included with the archive - clearly stating that it
was authored by Richard Bennett! I had obtained it from others. I then
uploaded it into the 1WSW folder several years ago and only recently did
I realize it wasn't complete - as Richard pointed out to me via an
email. I informed Richard that I found it from some other source as
such, I sincerely thought it was complete exactly as he released it. I
requested that it be removed from the 1WSW folder and it was removed.
So, again, I'll state for all to act on - if anybody has any problems
with anything inside of the 1WSW folder on Ground, then ask the Ground
Administrators of the ftp site to remove it and or move it some place
else.
Enough said!
Cheers,
Tom
