Microsoft Softcard

It's 02 Nov 96 18:34:51,
We'll return to tilghman@vuse.vanderbilt.edu and All's
discussion of Microsoft Softcard

ti> : I have this card but do not know how to use it so if anyone can
ti> : help me please send me information on it. I have an Apple iie with 2
ti> 5 : 1/4 inch drives. The card has 4 dip switches on it so I need to
ti> know : where to set them also.

 ti> It's a CP/M card, used for running a CP/M machine from within your
ti> Apple. I don't know much about it, but I believe there's some info
ti> in the FAQ -- look at http://www.visi.com/~nathan

I have a set of manuals for the Softcard. No, I do want to keep them (I
have the card in service too! :) ), but if anyone wants to ask a
question that might be answered in the manual, feel free to. :-)

According to the manual, make sure all 4 switches are _off_.

S1-1 controls the address translation:

Off: Z-80 addresses are translated to avoid conflict with 6502 address.
On: No translation is performed.

S1-2 controls the card's DMA behaviour:

Off: 'Normal' DMA daisy chain is preserved. Lower priority devices
      cannot interrupt the Softcard.
On: Softcard gives up control of the bus at end of each machine cycle.
Other devices can then take control of the bus.

S1-3 NMI
Off: NMI will be ignored by the Z80.
On: Softcard will receive NMI interrupt. (read notes in manual!).

S1-4 This is the equivalent to S1-3 for normal (maskable) interrupts.
Settings same as S1-3.

Note: All reccommended settings are 'off', unless used for a special
purpose...
