MS-DOS was originally "QDOS" (Quick and Dirty Operating System), written
by another company and bought by Microsoft.  QDOS was strongly based on
CP/M, but subsequent changes have moved far away from that (even MS-DOS
2.0 is a big improvement over CP/M, but MS-DOS 1.x is very similar).

Microsoft bought FoxPro.  They might have written Access themselves
(from scratch).
