I'm talking mainly for hardware.  The Pentium is based on an extended design
dating back to the 8-bit 8080 of the '70s (yes, I know DOS requires at least
an 8088/8086).  It is open and has many slots for expansion.  It remained
compatible with its user base over the years.

The Windows 95 interface is really quite good.  I don't like Microsoft, but
I keep an open mind.
