Can a PC Transporter be hacked?

I've hacked PCs before to speed them up.  I remember the old XTs where
you can stick in a V30 processor chip and a faster clock to make the
machine go faster.  The PCT does not have a socketed CPU, though.  Has
anyone tried to replace the CPU with a socket and a faster chip?  There
is a crystal oscillator.  I gather if this is changed, the board will
run faster, right?  Or is it tied in with the video and I/O?  There used
to be "XT to 286" plug in CPU replacements for PCs.
