The PC design was derived from the II.  Consumer Reports said it themselves
in their one of their buyers guides from the '80s.  "...the old classic
computers, buoyied by their past success, keep chugging along.  The Apple
//e is the most business like of the classics.  Even when IBM was insulting
it, they were using Apple IIs to design the computer that would eclipse it."

By the way, when it was around, CR gave a very favorable report of the //e
and when comparing the //c to the PCjr., they gave the //c the nod because
of the PCjr's "chicklet" keyboard.
