I say prototype as I can't imagine anyone cloning it as it would be a
lot more work to knock off the rest of the stuff and stay below the
radar. The date codes on the IC's would probably tell all, there.
Since that unpopulated spot on the card I have has a socket on the
original post's picture, that too is an indicator of design and
engineering. Perhaps the PCB was made a bit longer so that less
cutting would need to be done on a single panel.

I thought maybe they elongated it for the Apple ///, but it's not
quite long enough to matter there. It needs another half inch or so to
reach the notches on the ///.
