If your clock is the one made by Applied Engineering then you do need
software.  There is a xxx.SYSTEM file that must be placed on your boot
disk ahead of other xxx.SYSTEM files.  It modifies ProDOS to make it
read the clock.  The software disk I have puts the file on the disk in
the correct position automatically.
