   My thanks to everyone who responded, the information was very helpful. 
I was able to determine that the disks had gone bad, and that the drive is
fine.   I've made some progress with the machine, and am looking forward
to learning more.  Anyways, thanks a lot for the help, and any other
information would be appreciated.  (I need to know the command to switch
drives, as in saving to the second disk or using a program there, I've a
lot to learn yet  :)
