Re: Re Apple II e.....Can I use Inkjet or Lasers ??????

Somebody asked about using jet printers on a ][e...

I can tell you for certain sure that the Canon BJC-4200 will print from an
Apple ][e. I was doing it a week ago. Just plug it in and start sending
text, and the BJC-4200 will print in Courier.

In general, if you can hook the printer up to a Pee Cee and type:

C>COPY FILE.TXT LPT1:

and get meaningful output, then it will work with a ][e.

Now, whether or not you can access the special features of that printer
from your software on the ][e is another matter. The "true" answer is
"yes"...the printer only knows there is data coming from the computer...if
you can speak its language, you can make it roll over and do tricks.
Witness the people who use Apple Writer ][e to generate PostScript for
LaserWriters. Gawd, what a chore!

The short answer, then, is "does your software talk to the printer you're
considering?" If all you want is text, then, sure, no problem. The
trickery comes if you want to use the neat features that make the ink jet
printers worth buying. (apart from the high-quality text...but hey, you
can get that out of a Scribe...if you can find one!)
