help with ethertalk

Heeeelp me !!!

Recently I reinstalled my systemfiles after formating the harddisk,
and after that my ethernet connection was hopelessly gone.
In Detail: When im tryin to switch my Performas Connection type from
LocalTalk to EtherTalk im alwas receiving the message :
 An error ocurred while trying to switch to to EtherTalk, reseting to
LocalTalk (or somethig like that )
   
   	So what could i do to have my Performa work with our
Network???
 
there is no defect in the the Network , because its running; and the
Network Adapter can't be defect becaue it has worked pefectly a few
days ago, so please to anyone out there HELP ME!!
