        Hi,
I just got an apple 11e and when I start it I just get the apple 11 logo
and the right hand FD spins with a red light on. No software came with it
but there is a used software store  nearby. What do I need and is there a
way to check if this thing works ok?

What red light is that? At the diskdrive? Left the door open, maybe?
YOu need Prodos version 1.9 and Basic.system to start.
Try to get also Appleworks3.0
Try also the self-diagnostic test to see whether you //e is ok.
To do that press OApple-Ctrl-Reset (in that order) and release.
After going thru the motions, you should see the message
Kernel o.k.
If not, you have problems.
