   You have two main choices: Dos 3.3 or ProDOS. Both work fine on
5.25" disks, taking up not too much space. Plain DOS 3.3 had a few
quirks, but some patched versions provided more memory for BASIC
programs, and loaded files much quicker. ProDOS is more limited in
its filenames (15 chars, A-Z0-9.) but allowd subdirectories.

   When you go to a HD, ProDOS is by far the best bet, as it allows
up to 32MB on one partition. Hacked DOS 3.3s only allowed 400K per
"volume," and there's no native HD support built into it.

   [There's also the UCSD Pascal dos format, but nobody uses that to
do anything serious and it's even more crippled than those two.]

   Your local Apple dealer might be able to make you a copy, or ask
at a local Apple II user group.
