Downloading problems

Nothing I download from AOl works on my IIGS not shrinkit, prodos or 
anything, the only thing that works is binscii.txt.  Everything is 
converted by aol to text files, and I have no idea how to unconvert 
them.  I've read up on changing resource creators with resedit, but 
that doesn't work either.  Some of the files have sys bina, pv, etc...

My question is this.  How do I successfully download a file and run it 
on my IIGS from within basic.system and prodos.  Does shrinkit run 
under basic.system  What command do I use to run it.
