Daisy Chaining 3.5's

Came across a couple 3.5" drive mechinisms the other day and was wondering..

The drives have a ribbon cable that plugs into some board on the case (or
something like that). Since the ribbon cable connector is the same on
both ends (looks like a short Disk][ connector) why couldn't a 'Y'
connector be made up to daisy chain the two drives together THEN connect
it to ONE board (on the case) and plug into the Smartport?

I don't have a 3.5" drive case here apart but I seem to recall something
like this.

I'd like to mount these in a tower, but I'm not sure if this is possible
or what would be needed.

Am I confused? Are you confused?
