Short of checking each manufacturer's diskettes, there is no way to
be certain that all of today's HD diskettes are different from DD
diskettes. However, tests of a recent batch of HD diskettes showed marked
differences with DD diskettes.

HD and DD diskette surfaces were magnetized and checked for magnetic
deflection. The DD diskettes showed much higher deflection. There is no
question that, for the test samples, the surfaces are different. A drive
designed for optimal performance with the DD diskettes could not be
expected to deliver optimal performance with the HD diskettes.
