SCSI hard drive on GS: Questions

I just got a different hard drive for use with my ROM 03 IIgs:
Conner 3.5" SCSI 118 meg (made approx 1990).
I used CHINOOK scsi software to check it out. Passed all tests ----
every block tested good! Partitioned it to 4 partitions. My card
is an Apple Hi-speed SCSI card.
I installed it in my Profile casing (with hacked scsi ports), with System
6.0.1 installed from disks.
THE PROBLEM: When booting, the splash screen and thermometer work as usual,
but when the thermometer fills up, it never proceeds to the desktop.
Instead, the splash screen just hangs there with its filled themometer.
I tried re-installing the System 6.0.1 again with a different set of
disks --- same result.
What did I do wrong?
Please copy your reply to me at e-mail also ---- my time at the e-mail
computers at college is so brief (prior to "kick-out"), that I hastily
read e-mail first ---- often never getting the luxury of reading lists
like this one.
Thanks. Steve Buggie buggie@unm.edu
