I don't know if it's useable or not, I just lent an unenhanced
//e to our school organization for various record keeping...

Try inserting a system disk into the Mac at startup, before the
sad faced icon appears.  Usually sad-faced means faulty system
software (internal hard drive), so supplementing the sw by an
external disk may solve the problem.  Also possible is bad RAM.

Mac says "bad system"  GS gives 8-digits to tell exactly what
the heck is wrong with the system... Gives a whole new meaning
to the term "reverse engineering".  :-)
