OK, I now volunteer to assist people with these problems. Just send me
email with some info about how you downloaded and which program(s) you
used. Maybe we can then figure out what happens and add some hints
to avoid this to the FAQ.
It seems to me that the resource fork isn't the problem, since people
still have the problem after removing it (see above). So I think it
might a MacBinary header that gets added by the comm program.

Deal with what? I didn't say that nobody has problems.

You didn't mention the programs on the Mac side, did you?
