DSK Images on a PC
--> I've hesitated writing this as it may `paint' me with a certain kind
of brush; but I am quite frustrated by this so I'll ask. As well, the
last time I looked at the FAQ, this wasn't covered or wasn't covered
clearly enough (nor did the info I found at asimov). <sigh> on with it!
I have a IIe sitting behind me - with many original programs, some even of
which I've just d/led from asimov (TO MY PC). I have d/led a Windows Apple
2 emulator (since I was curious about running A2 software on my PC) and a
few DSK images from the same place. I can't `unpack' these DSK images.
(ie: DROL.DSK.GZ). It seems that these images have been `packed' on a UNIX
box of some kind but I still get the sense that there is some way to
`unpack' these images (and I re-iterate: this is for my PC - not my IIe),
so that they could be utilized by the A2 emulator I have for my PC.
My question: is there some way to either `unpack' these DSK images ON MY
PC so that I can use them with the Windows Apple 2 emulator; or perhaps
some way to `convert' these images to something that my DOS Apple 2
emulator could use (uh... that one is called simiie, I think). The idea of
running my PC as an `Apple 2' system is intriguing - but at this point; it
is very frustrating. I don't condone d/ling things and setting them up on
an Apple 2 - but I don't have the same feelings about doing it on another
platform. A secondary question: As I mentioned - I have plenty of original
Apple 2 programs - how would I make them into DSK images I could use on
my PC (since getting them in this xxx.DSK.GZ format is getting me nowhere)
I have kept an older CopyII+ (even though I upgraded) and this version,
(v6.x) can make xxx.IMG files. Can these xxx.IMG files be used as is, on
the PC? Sorry to blather on, so. Would appreciate some input...
