$500 is _WAY_ too much. A modem, mouse and keyboard addon for the
Sega Saturn (Saturn has a street price of $199, addons would probably
be $100 more, tops) have been in the works for quite some time. No HD,
but you can put Netscrape, yahoo (well, a snapshot, anyhow) and a few
popular destinations on a CD or cartridge, and your $500 box that only
does internet is now a paperweight.
Besides, when you're done surfing the web on a game platform with
modem, you can pop in a game and kill a few thousand aliens as stress
relief. $500 internet boxes sure won't be able to do that for a while.
If you've already got a desktop computer, use it to connect to the
internet. If you've got an extendable game platform, it'll be cheaper
and more fun to use that. If you have neither, buying a computer is
far better in the long run.
