A couple of things I did today...
Just for the heck of it, I tried turning the slot speed of my SS (slot 1)
to normal, via the DIP switches on the ZIP. Still had the same boot up
problems. I noticed something else though, and I'm not sure if this has
anything to do with the slot speed setting...
I reported before (As well as other people) that it usually took anywhere
from 3-8 resets on the SS "garbage lines" screen before a successful boot.
This was using a control-Open Apple-Reset. After tediously
experimenting, I found that just a control-reset workes on the FIRST
time. I tested this a million times, and it worked EVERY time. Maybe it
was just a freak series of coincedences, but it DID work.
My next "fiddle" will be to completely remove my ZIP, and run everything
through a series of boots. Then I will replace it, and start the speed
out slow (via changing the crystal) and slowly build up. Maybe something
good will come of all this.
