Last month someone questioned how to change the LED Color in the Apple/Mac
External Drives (800K and 1.44 Meg Platinum Cases).
If one removes the lid and the metal holder from the underside, they will
see a black retangular module that slips on to 2 lid pins, and slides
easily off. The black module has 2 wires, one red and a black for the red
led version and a yellow and black for the yellow version. If you
carefully lift off the press fit cover on the narrow end (I suggest a
jewlers screw driver) if will lift off accessing a frosted insert. The
insert will lift out and you will find a minature LED w/Wires exiting the
module, with a slight tug it will pull out. If you can find a same size
led in whatever color you want, you can change the color to yellow or red
or whatever, replacing the current led.
With a little effort you could likely swap a Hard disk's LED in place of
the insert also.
(This is in reply to someone's inquire about changing their upgraded
Superdrive to match the factory Superdrive unit).
