Back in 1984 (gee, was it that far back?), I wrote a program which sets up
a ProDOS disk with an arbitrary directory size.  I don't remember having
any problems in that area, so I suspect the ProDOS version at the time
(1.0.1) was able to cope with unusual numbers of blocks.  Low-level
utility programs would be a different story.

I don't think I've tried using it since then for anything nonstandard.
