What you have isn't a V.32 modem. It uses a proprietary protocol to do
9600. It falls back to V.22bis to communicate with other modems at 2400
bps.
Hopefully you didn't spend too much on what is, for all practical purposes,
a 2400-bps modem (especially when you can find brand-new, brand-name
external V.32bis modems for under $100 and V.34 modems for not much more).
