Q:high speed scsi & hd

I have just installed a new hd and find that it only appears in the scsi 
chain if my old drive remains attached to it. 

According to the hs scsi card manual, this problem indicates a need for 
an active terminator. The terminator I purchased from a local dealer, 
which is supposed to be an active term. doesn't seem to solve the problem  (the new drive has been formatted, partitioned and system s/w 
installed).

I recently downloaded a .gif image showing a hardware mod (diode) to the hs 
scsi card to add active termination. Would this solve my problem?

Any ideas, any one?
