You didn't mention software:  Did you  get a disk with the PCT
when you bought it?  I believe the latest version is 2.02 or something. 
The software on the disk is required to run the PCT as a PC.

By configuration, I think you mean without a HD? And without a PCT 
Transdrive?  I think it's theoretically possible, but I'm afraid I'm
away from my computer this week, and couldn't give you step-by-step 
instructions.
