Before doing all this, touch the metal power supply, it's in the upper
left-hand corner. This will dissipate the static electricity in your body,
which can harm the ][e and it's components. Be sure that it is still plugged
in. No, really. Most of the time when you're fixing an appliance, you unplug
it to be sure not to zap yourself. In the case of computers, it needs to be
pluggged so the static electricity has a safe place to go. After that, you can
unplug it.
Long ago, Apple recomended that you actually drop your computer from the height
of one foot. With the rubber feet on the bottom, and the durability of the ][
series in general, I suppose it's ok to do. Let inertia seat the chips in the
sockets properly. Still damn hard to do without gritting my teeth and sweat on
my brow. :)
