Re: help w/ mac to gs transfer
Rob,
You downloaded IIgs software on the mac and you want to get it to a GS,
right? Well, the IIgs stuff should NOT be in any binhex form such that
you need to de-binhex it. You should only need to use GSHK (GS Shrinkit)
or Shrink It to decompress the file which will come out onto 800K
diskettes. Stuff.DSK or Stuff.SHK should be the format of the file name.
If you have a hard drive, this is very very easy. If you don't, I believe
you need at least two 800K diskettes for this to work.
Are you using system software now or are you running off floppies that are
self-booting? Anyway, don't use ResEdit to change any Apple II files
because ResEdit will add Resource Forks to the file which may inhibit the
file from being recognized by GS/OS or Prodos programs. As a matter of
fact, it's very plausible that resource forks are the culprits here. In
this case, you may need to use A2FX to transfer your Mac-downloaded GS
system software containing files by: (1) copying the raw file onto an 800K
MacFormatted (and not mac interchange). (2) Then, use A2FX which will
read the Mac disk and copy the files you want to transfer onto Prodos disk
while stripping the resource forks. If you do this, I'm sure GSHK can
recognize the file (barring anything unusual) and your on your way.
However, before you try all that stuff, maybe you should consider the
facts:
Are you using GSHK? Are you using system software? GS/OS version 6.0.0
and 6.0.1 will read and write mac disk directly so this can eliminate some
headaches. Although you may be trying to download that... anyway, please
don't hesitate to email me if you need clarification.
Terrible writing, eh?
