MUST NOT POST... MUST RESIST... TEMPTATION... PROMISED TO LEAVE GROUP
FOREVER... MUST JUST LURK... Mmmmmuuuuusssstttt....
Ahh screw it... I've just GOTTA answer to this one!

: Open up your eyes and ears, bozo. Commercially available, in this case,
: is in reference to the fact that the software in question IS NO LONGER
: BEING PRODUCED by the parent company. There will always be originals
Really? No matter if the parent company no longer produces it... It is
STILL UNDER COPYRIGHT YOU LITTLE SELF-RIGHTEOUS PRICK! I don't care if
the company BURNED the last of their stock! Until you get permission, it
is a violation of the law to copy it! Last I checked, if it is pursued
(NOTE: The Federal Gov't can press these suits unless the owner of the
copyright tells them that it is OK for this to be distributed), this is a
jail term and large fine.
Come to think of it you get a harsher sentence for copyright violation
than you do for ownership of drugs.
: available, but this is existing stock. And even if the Atarisoft
: originals above are being produced by someone as new product, that does
: not mean that EVERYTHING else in the software universe "fails your test"
: as you put it.
You are right... Everything else does not fail the test. Just check out
the people that have legitimately managed to get writers/companies to
allow the distribution of their software as freeware. That software
passes the test, no problem.
: I guess we are to never again experience the fun of some of this older

: wanna-be-an-important-person, computer hacks who can't cut it in the real
Sounds interesting Mr. No Name... What do YOU do for a living? I work for
an ISP, and I deal with little creeps like you that pirate stuff so often
they don't even know that this stuff is supposed to cost money. I'm sure
Microsoft cares about every copyright. People that copy the "dead old
apple II" programs probably won't have a qualm picking up MS Office next
(It's SO expensive... They won't even NOTICE if I copy it just once....)
Yes, I am ashamed to say that when I was younger I sometimes copied
programs... I learned. I am now old enough to know the difference between
right and wrong. I'm intelligent enough to realize that if I can't write
it on my own, I can't just copy it because I want to use it. If you want
to copy some commercial software, here's the best way I know of: Learn to
program, see what the program does, and WRITE YOUR OWN! Then, after
you've put weeks and months into a piece of software, eating cold pizza
because you don't have the time to cook something, give it out to the
world. And ask them to send you some cash... Then watch all your friends
pass it around at club meetings and over the net.
Jerk.
: world. Here's a thought: if the copyright holder objects, LET HIM
: LITIGATE THE THING. It's not your place to fight his battles for him, OR
: tell anyone else how to go about their business. Remember Nate:
It IS our place to police the 'Net. If we don't, the government will... I
would rather have Mr. Nates and Company blowing the whistle on this sort
of stuff than the Feds closing MY business because people are accessing it
through me. Thanks to people like you we have garbage like the CDA.
Thanks to people like Mates & Company, we have a chance to fight it.
