Actually, this is a bad idea. Let's all face one simple reality:
The Reverend Doctor Charles T. (Dr. Tom) Turley, PhD.
will never, ever leave c.s.apple2.
We can whine and flame all we want about this fact, but it ain't
gonna change.
So.
So we put him in our killfiles and relax? Bad idea. New people
drop into this group all the time. They need to be warned that
Dr. Tom often (unwittingly, or otherwise) posts incorrect
technical information. (eg, that GUPP works on 6.0)
The only way to get around this is to read his responses to
posts (and his original posts, too, I guess) and check for
accuracy. After all, experts in any newsgroup accept the
moral duty to review posts for accuracy. (cf, rec.games.
roguelike.nethack)
If facts need to be corrected, do so. Post no flame.
Perhaps a brief statement of this policy. Dr. Tom will
doubtless reply, flame or not. Give him the last word.
The general quality of c.s.apple2 will improve enormously:
more so than if Erick, Nathan, myself, etc. just killfiled
Dr. Tom.
Bracing myself for the inevitable 1WSW flame (and threat of
FBI investigation :-), which I won't respond to (as per
my suggested policy),
I remain,
