First check if the ID is 7 or 0 as others have suggested. Another
possibility is that your SCSI chain is not properly terminated
(or the drive's termination has gone bad). This can result in the
"ghost" partition problems you mentioned. Try attaching an external
terminator to the drive (if it is at the end of the chain). This
solved a ghost partition problem some time ago.
