Well, I don't like the idea too much either, but I'm almost forced to it
since I REALLY want to be able to grab 3 pieces of hardware (CPU, Monitor,
Keyboard) and go with my system. Besides, I'll probably move the CPU onto
the floor so I won't have to look at the beast, and have desk space
for when I want to solder or study.

CURRENTLY, I have a CPU, System Saver IIgs, Pair of 35W speakers, a 2 foot
stack of drives (2 Apple 3.5"s, 2 5.25"s, CD-ROM & Hard drive), and
an AppleColor RGB on a monitor arm. It's a bit unwieldy to move, not
to mention UGLY since the hard drive can't sit nicely in its own case
(i didn't get a case for it; i'm unable to use the cdrom since i'm using
it's power supply and scsi cabling for the HD right now).

There are enough advantages to me to put the IIgs into a tower case.
Specifically, more power (i've got a ZipGSX, RAMFast, Sonic Blaster,
Sirius RAM with 6 megs, and a Grappler plus in there on my Rom 3),
internal drives, and setting the LEDs on the front panel to say "GS".

Also, it wouldn't be bad to make some other modifications at the same time
(wiring the SW1-6 on the Zip to Turbo, etc). I could at a "Desert Cooler"
to the system, to vent out ALL the extra heat ("Desert Cooler" is a twin
fan unit powered by a drive power cable that bolts into the back
panel of an IBM style case).

This will definitely NOT be a machine for the timid. This will be a
formidable workstation when i'm done with it, GS based.

After I've done that, I'm thinking about a portable case. I've seen some
in Computer Shopper, and I want to give it a try. It'd be fun to see a
IIgs with a Second Sight inside a portable case (the tricky part would be
rebuilding the ADB electronics into their keyboard. other than that...).
