Lobotomizing a UniDisk 3.5

I seem to remember that there is a way to "lobotomize" a UniDisk 3.5 and
turn it into a regular unintelligent Apple 3.5 drive. Unfortunately I
can't seem to locate this information, and simply bypassing the drive's
onboard controller makes the drive sit permanently in "eject" mode (as
if I may need to tie a line to +5 or GND somewhere)

Am I just imagining it, or is it really possible to do this?
