A company called Berkeley Softworks came out with an Apple II version of 
their GEOS environment.  It's a Mac knockoff that started life on the 
Commodore 64 (though versions for the Apple, as well as Commodore's own 
C128 were more powerful).  It was a big success in the Commodore market 
but I'm not sure how well it made it on the Apple side of the tracks (it 
did grace several magazine covers).  I haven't used it in years but i 
remember it's usability was better than any Microsoft operating system!
