Don, I don't know what you have on your SyQuest drive or your 540mb hard 
drive, however it looks like the FST runs into trouble when you have 
large HFS volumes and/or many files on that HFS volume.  If you 
partitioned your 540mb drive into 5 95mb HFS volumes, you'd probably 
never have a problem.  Using one 400mb HFS volume may cause you sleepless 
nights ;)

I had both large HFS volumes and many files... like 400-800mb single 
HFS volumes and about 13,000 to 15,000 files on them.
